Historic Whispers
Camrose County cradles countless artifacts that whisper of days gone by. Some are larger, like the tee pee structure pictured below, which stands at the entrance of the Glen Johnson Faith and Life Centre, at the Univeristy of Alberta's Augustana campus. Some as intricate as a small stone dinasour bone, gleaned from a field.
Proactive Private Collections:The home of Roy and Judy Louis is a living breathing display of indigenous culture. Every where the eye falls, there are invaluable treasures to behold, each with a millennium's worth of stories to tell. For more information on the Louis home, work and passion, click on the box.
Many of the artifacts on display above are indigenous to Austrailia. The bottom left of the photo shows a porcupine quill necklace, with bear claw artistry just above it.
The photo below shows Cree Elder, Roy Louis embracing an Brazilian medicine man, who opened his home to the Louises while they explored the Amazon. Even though there was a language barrier, nothing interfered with the sweet fellowship, and meeting of the minds that took place over those adventure filled weeks. |
